HST exempt with GST exemption?
Has anyone gotten a clear answer on whether previous GST exemptions also apply to HST?

Lower your membership fees!
Last year was $65, and now it will be $100? Why the HUGE jump? I've been a member in good standing for over 30 years and cannot see the justification for such a jump in fees! Especially when ANYONE can join, such as salon owners or others in the field without a license! Give us a break!

From $65 to $100 membership increase!
Ouch, that's quite a jump, especially in this economy! What are you thinking!!!

Re-regulation
November 14, 2009
Re-regulation is very important, and as dedicated members of CIABC, we must all unite and write a petition to re-regulate the Beauty Industry and give it the respect and recognition it deserves. We cannot let anyone and everyone out there to open a makeshift salon and start doing their services, at the risk of the health and safety of their clients. Safety is the key, and we must all adhere to it!!

See what is happening with the H1N1 Pandemic.

Letter to Honourable Minister Moira Stilwell
I am submitting a letter to Honourable Ms Moira Stilwell, Minster of Advanced Education to reinstate the regulation of the Industry. Contact me to sign a petition for this at my website: www.threadingbrow-wow.com.

United we stand! We will overcome this hurdle, believe me, if we all stand up to this injustice and hacking of our right to have our Industry regulated.

Also, I am looking to regularize Threading as a legitimate part of the Cosmetology Industry. Please check my website to lend your support for this cause and sign my Petition.

Also, Don’t forget to sign my guest list! Thanks to you all!

UPDATE - Stop the HST
Dear Fight HST Supporter,

The BC Liberals continue to ignore the voters on the HST. Thousands of citizens showed up at rallies all over BC to show the government they disagree with their plans for a new 7% tax to be applied to all goods and services in BC, including those that never had PST before! Yet the government plows ahead with it.

As the reality of this tax sinks in, British Columbians are realizing it is the biggest transfer of the tax burden from businesses to consumers in the history of our province. It will cost the average BC family over $2,100 per year in new taxes.

It isn’t fair!

It isn’t right!

It will hurt BC’s economy at a time when we need to help it recover.

And, unfortunately, none of the money collected will go to healthcare, social programs, education or job creation. Instead it will profit, more than anyone, the shareholders, many of them American, European or Asian in the big public companies who stand to gain the most from having the taxes they pay refunded under the HST.

We can and we must stop this cruel tax. We have a plan to launch a province wide Citizen’s Initiative Petition to defeat or repeal the HST. The petition will be launched first thing in the new year.

But for it to succeed, we will need a total of over 4,250 volunteers to collect signatures on the petition. That works out to 50 volunteers in every riding.

We have hundreds of volunteers so far, but many more are needed. With 50 people in each riding, that works out to 100 signatures per canvasser – a very doable workload that can be achieved in a short time.

Attached is a poster you can place at your local grocery store, library, restaurant, gas station, etc. to help raise awareness for our campaign.

Please register now to volunteer at: www.fightHST.com

Then forward this request on to at least 10 of your friends/contacts.

Ask them to sign up and then forward this appeal to at least 10 of their friends.

If everyone does this, we will reach our goal of 4,250 volunteers in time to launch our Citizen Initiative Petition in January. Actual signatures will be collected in March, April and May of 2010.

By working together, we can hold our government to account, and defeat their plan to implement a tax that many agree will be bad for BC, and for which they have no mandate.

Thank you for your support! Please volunteer to help today - and help restore democracy and accountability to BC!

Congratulations to our new board
I agree that we need some sort of control over the industry to guarantee people doing the work and teaching are completely quallified. I worry about the government taking over being they don't know our businesses. I would hope to see the CIABC taking charge with a support system in place backed by government regulations. I believe in our Association and the new board has my support. I enjoyed being able to attend the AGM and look forward to seeing our membership grow. Good luck to us all. Bill Vanderzalm's Answer
"Say No to the HST" Website Launch.

The 'Say No to the HST' group, led by former Premier Bill Vander Zalm, has created a new website where citizens can get information and register as volunteer canvassers for the Citizen's Initiative to rescind the HST, to be launched following the Vancouver rally led by Mr. Vander Zalm on September 19. Mr. Vander Zalm believes all British Columbians opposed to this tax must work together to defeat it in a united effort to hold the government to account.

The website has been posted and will be up in the next 48 hours.

7% increase...not 12%
To the last post: I understand it to be a 7% increase, not a 12% one. You already have the GST at 5%. They are adding 7%, to make a total of 12%. It's still a large increase, but not as bad as a 12% one.
