Why Barber Shops Must Disinfect Equipment
Hepatitus B and C are life-threatening viruses. Hepatitis C is a blood borne virus which spreads via blood-to-blood contact.
There is a small risk of infection caused by having a haircut at a barber shop where the electrical clippers, scissors or sometimes unchanged razors used on a person might nick someone and then the machine used on another patron.
But Seriously....Are You a Professional?
It is a wonderful plan...attend esthetic school, get your license and open your own business. Who wouldn't want a job where you can choose your own hours and make a lot of money doing something you love? Unfortunately, this method of opening a business doesn't always work in reality, and many estheticians find themselves ill-equipped to take on the task. Although most schools are good at teaching the basic skin care knowledge required to pass the state test, fewer provide the business training necessary to open a spa. After all, the business of skin care consists of much more than simply caring for the skin.

Executive Opportunity: the CIABC is currently looking for a CEO
Changing the face of the B.C. Cosmetology Industry, one member at a time.
The Cosmetology Industry Association of British Columbia (CIABC) is dedicated to the personal, creative and financial success of B.C's many talented beauty professionals. CIABC is a member-based, not-for-profit, professional trade association which represents the interest of hairstylists, barbers, estheticians, nail technicians, salon and spa owners, educators, beauty school owners/students, apprentices, manufacturers and wholesalers. It supports its members and represents the industry's interests to the policymakers in the municipal, provincial and federal governments.
For nearly 75 years the provincial government regulated the industry through the Cosmetologists' Association of British Columbia (CABC). When government regulation ceased in 2004, the industry created a new voluntary association of committed professionals. CIABC successfully replaced CABC, and continues to provide a training curricula and certification process for B.C's beauty professioanls in a deregulated environment.
The cosmetology industry is vibrant, creative and passionate. Today, the CIABC is a global industry leader, which enjoys international recognition. It is an exciting time to join the CIABC as it looks to new and innovative ways to achieve its mandate and grow its membership.
The CIABC is currently looking for a Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
